Payments

Get paid properly, and keep getting paid.

Cash, card, EFT and split payments at the counter. Online payments on your web store. And the one thing the rest of the market will not give a cannabis retailer: the confidence that nobody is going to switch you off on a Friday afternoon.

The part nobody else will say out loud

Your account will not be closed for what you sell.

Ask anyone who has run a cannabis shop in South Africa and you will hear the same story. A payment account is opened without much fuss, trade goes fine for a few months, and then someone in a risk department reads the product list. The account is frozen. A payout is held. Nobody will tell you exactly why, and the appeal goes nowhere.

That is the reason CannyPos exists. This is not a general retail system that happens to tolerate you. The industry is the point. We are not going to discover what you sell and panic about it, because we built the age gates, the identity capture and the daily limits that you need in order to sell it properly.

No sudden holds

Your takings are not going to sit in limbo while somebody decides whether they are comfortable with your licence.

No surprise reviews

You were onboarded as a cannabis retailer. There is nothing to discover later, so there is nothing to react to later.

One relationship

The till, the card machine and the online store are set up together, so there is no finger-pointing when something needs fixing.

At the counter

The card machine is already part of the till.

There is no typing the amount into a separate terminal and hoping the cashier got it right. The till sends the total to the machine, the customer taps or inserts, and the machine answers back.

The sale is only written once the payment is confirmed. That ordering matters more than it sounds. It means your sales history can never contain a transaction that was never actually paid for, which is exactly the sort of thing that turns a day-end into an argument.

  • Cash with the amount tendered captured and the change worked out for you.
  • Card sent straight to the integrated terminal, with the reference kept against the sale.
  • EFT recorded with the customer's reference so you can match it off a bank statement later.
  • Split across two of the above, with both legs recorded against one sale.

One sale, two tenders

Total R 500.00
Cash in the drawerR 250.00
On the card machineR 250.00

Both legs are recorded against the same sale, so the basket, the stock and the points all stay right.

Split payments

Half cash, half card, one sale.

A customer has three hundred in cash and wants the rest on the card. Without split payments the cashier either refuses, or rings it up as two separate sales.

Two sales means the basket is wrong, the member collects points twice, the stock movement is split across two records and your average basket is quietly nonsense. CannyPos records one sale with two tenders, which is what actually happened at the counter.

Online

Online payments on a store we build for you.

Selling online is a second payment problem, and usually a second set of providers with their own opinions about your licence. We handle it as one piece of work: your storefront, your catalogue and your online payments, set up alongside the shop rather than bolted on afterwards.

Because the website runs off the same products, prices and stock as the till, an online order cannot sell something the shop sold ten minutes ago. Your regulars get the same member pricing online that they get at the counter.

End of day

A cash-up that already knows the answer.

Because every tender is recorded as it happens, the day-end is a comparison rather than an investigation. You see what should be in the drawer, what went through the card machine and what came in by EFT, per branch, per cashier.

Questions

Payments, answered plainly

Will my payment account be frozen for selling cannabis?

Not with CannyPos. We do not freeze, hold or terminate accounts because of what a licensed retailer legally sells. The industry is the reason the product exists, so there is no awkward discovery waiting to happen six months in.

Can I take card payments in the shop?

Yes. A card terminal is already integrated with the till. The till sends the amount to the machine, the customer taps, the machine confirms, and only then is the sale recorded against your books.

Can a customer pay part cash and part card?

Yes. Split payments let you take part of the total in cash and charge the balance to the card machine, or record it as an EFT. Both legs are stored against the same sale, so your basket size, your stock and your member points all stay correct.

What happens to a card sale if the internet drops mid-payment?

The sale is only written once the terminal confirms, so you never end up with a recorded sale that was never paid. If the confirmation is slow, the till keeps watching for it instead of guessing, and the cashier is told what is happening rather than being left staring at a spinner.

Do I need a separate provider for the online store?

No. We set the online payments up as part of building your store, so the shop and the website are one arrangement rather than two relationships you have to manage and explain yourself to twice.
